At the ‘Google For India’ event 2016, the tech company introduced some major gems that it has in store for the country. And each one is better than the other.
1. Google Station-enabled free Wi-Fi at public spaces
With an aim to make internet accessibility possible for everyone, the company launched Google Station for India. Google plans to achieve its goal by installing Wi-Fi spots at shopping malls, bus stops, and cafeterias.
2. Google Assistant to communicate in Hindi
Google’s AI is learning a second language and it will soon make ‘smart replies’ to its users in Hindi on Google Allo.
3. Google Allo first rolled out in India
Google announced that India was among the first few countries where its WhatsApp-rivaling app, Allo, was introduced.
4. Data Saver comes to Google Chrome
The Chrome browser is getting new features including data saving, offline capability, and content discovery. Users will be able to save their favourite articles, videos, etc. even in an offline mode in order to access them without network connectivity.
5. YouTube Go announced for India
Conceptualized around four key aspects – Reliability, Connectivity, Cost, and Sociability – the feature will allow users to stream videos on slow internet speeds. The users will also be able to save data, cut down on their data usage costs, and download videos in different quality formats.
6. Google Accelerator coming to India soon
The Accelerator will allow users to connect to Wi-Fi via satellite – even in public places such as airports, stations, schools, etc.
7. 2G update introduced for Play Store
Rolling out 2G update for Play Store will enable Indian villages to access the store even without high-speed network connections.
8. Google Duo named the most used app in India after the US
The video calling app – competing with the likes of FaceTime and Skype – is a rage among Indians, second only to Americans.
9. Google News is now live
‘Lite Mode’ will power Google News and Weather on 2G connections, and trim content while keeping the headlines intact to allow faster loading time.
